Enhance an artwork means recognising it as such and implementing all those actions that favour its knowledge and use across the board. The exhibition is one of the main “tools” for enhancing the value of an artwork.
Exhibit and Enhancement
Mnemosyne offers specific services for everything related to enhancement; designing and implementing promotion and fruition paths, improving the usability of a single work or of an entire collection, exploiting its consolidated experience in fundraising and sponsorship, up to providing complete support for everything related to exhibit.
Mnemosyne Services is able to offer complete support for the needs of works and lenders in the exhibition field. In such contexts Mnemosyne regulates and coordinates the relationships between the parties, drafting loan contracts and providing support for the design and planning of packaging and transport, specific courier services and the compilation of condition report.
Mnemosyne Servizi provides comprehensive support services for everything related to EXHIBITIONS.
The teams deal with the delicate preliminary stages of agreement and relationship between the lender and the exhibition organiser, including specific CONSULTANCY and LENDING ASSISTANCE services:
- agreements between the lender and the organizer of the exhibition
- assistance in the packaging and handling phases
- drafting of facilities and condition reports
There are some guidelines on museum standards that aim to summarise the principles that should govern the loan of artworks and which Mnemosyne uses as a basis for its accompanying services.
Specific solutions can then be implemented, both in domestic and museum environments thanks to the advice of our experts:
- design and creation of ad hoc exhibition structures
- planning of museum itineraries
- for other management services, see the dedicated Collection Management section
The enhancement of the cultural heritage consists of promoting the knowledge and improvement of the conditions of use and fruition of the heritage itself to all types of public, including the promotion and support of restoration and conservation of the cultural heritage. Valorisation also has the task of creating interest in specific themes, raising public curiosity and contributing to the economic relevance of cultural heritage through the transversal impacts that are produced.
Enhancement thus includes a wide range of interventions: different solutions can be implemented, both in domestic and museum environments, designing and implementing paths of valorisation, promotion and fruition, supporting the owner in the most appropriate choice to improve the usability of the work or of the entire collection. In this regard, see also the specific Collection Management service.
Mnemosyne Servizi has gained considerable experience in fundraising plans, sponsors and in organizing and managing guided tours of restoration sites with the inLocOperae project.
Mnemosyne offers different solutions in this field by designing and realizing:
The Condition Report is the document describing the state of conservation of an artwork lent for an exhibition. The same form can also be used by the organizers to indicate the state of conservation of works that arrive at the exhibition place. This form has two main functions: the first is to check the state of conservation of the work during all its movements and therefore prevent or control any risk situations; the second is to be a reference point or starting point for insurance in the event of damage.
The task of the courier is to supervise the packing and transport of works in transit on behalf of the museum or the owner. According to current practice, he is responsible for the control of the work from the moment it is packed until it is installed and officially taken over at its destination. As a representative of the lender, the accompanying person has full custodial and safety authority. The ideal accompanying person has a good knowledge of the criteria for the conservation and handling of artworks and is familiar with packaging methods and transport arrangements.
Packaging and handling
The transport of a work of art is a work that must always be planned with the maximum care, because it represents, together with the installation, one of the most risky moments for the physical integrity of the work itself. It is essential for the safety of the artwork to identify the most suitable packaging methods in relation to the technique used, the dimensions, the microclimate conditions to which the artwork is accustomed and all the particular characteristics of the artwork, which must be from time to time carefully studied in close collaboration with the restorer.
